Stringwiki is a non-profit organization based in the European Union that looks after the expert wiki project in the field of string instruments, violin wiki - Violinwiki.org.
The aim of the project is to support pupils and violin students and their teachers in the learning process by providing online teaching materials that are free of charge.
Stringwiki also publishes the forgotten violin works of the past, sheet music in the public domain and available recordings. In this direction, the goal is to provide students, teachers and researchers a complete bibliography of violin spanning five centuries (from the beginning of violin literature around 1530 to the present day) and related sheet music and recordings.
To achieve these goals there are individual projects for various areas of wiki prepared
The Violinwiki web server project has existed since 2016 and was developed as a private initiative of one of the founders of Stringwiki. From the beginning of the project it was clear that Violinwiki is not a one-man show and that the business model corresponds to a non-profit organization. Gradually, as the project grew, other supporters were recruited and they together founded the non-profit organization supporting the project. The project gained legal existence and possibilities for further development that would not have been possible without legal existence.
Stringwiki's mission is to make information available and contribute to the raising of the education and cultural level of the population by making available general and specialist information in the field of string instruments, especially violin, but also other string instruments, in particular by supporting the Violinwiki.org web server and possibly other servers dedicated to strings or other instruments.
Violinwiki is a knowledge base with a single topic - acoustic violin, in other words a violin “wiki”. It is intended to serve as the first and most complete source of information for those interested in learning the violin, violin students, music and violin teachers, musicologists, music historians, luthiers, music researchers, luthiers, archetiers or for those interested in music containing the violin. Violinwiki is available worldwide and is and will forever be available free of charge, in the spirit of wiki.
